Subject: Winsock over Novell
Hi,
I am trying to get Winsock to work over Novell. My setup is currently Windows
for Workgroup and Windows 3.1, and I am using Intel EtherExpress and 3COM
3C509 ethernet cards and Trumpet. I've downloaded the Crynwar packet driver
package, but could not get the PDIPX.COM to work. I am a rather novice at
this and can't understand the documentation included with Crynwar very well,
and basically am desperate for help.
Thanks,
Quoc
P.S. I've posted an earlier message, and got a kind reply from someone who
offered to give me a setup if I would outline my equipments. Unfortunately I
trashed the email accidentally. Needless to say I am now very very sorry
about this.

Sure it works with winpkt. Try the following:
AUTOEXEC.BAT
lsl
token
ipxodi
oditrpkt 2 0x65
winpkt 0x65
netx
and NET.CFG
; preferred server=darden2
file handles=100
show dots=on
IPX Packet Size Limit 1024
;used by odipkt.com
Link Support
; for lanwp buffers 8 1500, mempool 4096
Max Stacks 8
buffers 6 1600
MemPool 2048
Link Driver token
MAX FRAME SIZE 2048
Frame Token-Ring
Frame Token-Ring_SNAP
Protocol IPX E0 Token-Ring
That's all you need. Don't know about the pktmux stuff, as the above will
work with winsock, netware, netware remote, etc......

Subject: Anyone have problems: Trumpet->SOLARIS??
Is anyone out there have problems with Trumpet Winsock connecting to Solaris
systems??
I have Trumpet set up with nice large values for mtu, rwin, and mss. For
most machines I get real nice throughput. FTP ends up being as fast as Zmodem
- very nice!
But...
In order to connect to those machines on our campus (and beyond) that are
running Solaris, I have to lower all the values quite a bit:
mtu = 256
rwin = 768
mss = 216
This works, but is somewhat slower. Has anyone else experienced anything
similar. Any ideas why?
Thanks for listening.

Try Trumpet winsock by Peter Tattam (if I remember right).
It has a built in dialer.
You can get it from ftp.demon.co.uk and the directory is something
like /pub/protocol/ibmpc/winsock. Login as anonymous.
Good luck,
Steve.

The TCPMAN file WINSOCK.DLL must be in the PATH. When something wants to use
the network, it calls the DLL, and a routine in the DLL starts TCPMAN.
I have a terminal emulator that starts TCPMAN as soon as it loads, then
5 seconds later TCPMAN dies. When I actually tell it to make a call,
TCPMAN gets started again until the connection ends.
Hope this makes sense.

Subject: Winsock LPD daemon
Hi,
I am looking for a winsock compatible lpd daemon. I have tried wslpd
and it works ok but only supports 1 printer. I would like to be able
to specify more than 1.
Comercial pd or shareware would be OK.
Alternatively if anyone can provide me with some source in C, C++ or
Visual Basic I will try and implement the features I want and some other
features.
Thanks for any help

UPDATE RELEASE:
There is now a NOTIFY feature for the registered version. Up to 128 nicknames
can be put on the Notify list. Notify can be toggled on or off.
The nicknames are remembered between sessions.
There is now an IGNORE feature for the registered version. Up to 128 nicknames
can be put on the Ignore list. The ignored nicknames are remembered between
sessions.
There is now an ALIAS feature for the registered version. An unlimited number
of aliases can be created.
There is now a STARTUP file feature for the registered version. This is
similar to the ircii .ircrc file, allowing automatic set up of the client and
channels on connection to the server.
Buttons for ACTION, MODE, INVITE and KICK have been added to the toolbar.
There is now a global Alert FLASH and BEEP preference switch. Alert Window
Flash and Beeps can be toggled with it. Alert Beeps and Flashes occur for a
maximum of 4 times when enabled.
The Server Option dialog can now remember up to 128 last/recently used irc
servers and displays them in a drop down list box.
Text can be copied and pasted by highlighting and using Ctl-Insert and
Shift-Insert keys.
DCC SEND is now fully functional, it had a number of problems before due to
a bug in the software, it now functions properly. Keep in mind that the
shareware and freeware versions can only DCC SEND and receive files up to
10240 bytes.
The TOOLBAR has been embellished with more complete complement of convenience
buttons.
WHO command issued in channel window has been corrected.
/ME and /ACTION commands are now displayed as [ACTION] <nickname> this
provides for more a 'human' look. e.g. [ACTION] macsima waves and smiles
rather than the old [macsima-ACTION] waves and smiles.
Incoming Private messages are automatically minimized and triggers an alert.
This is to reduce the confusion when many private messages are received. You
can double click on the icon to accept or use the system menu to close and
thus decline it.
The channel text display box will now wordwrap. Instead of needing to scroll
to the right, it will wrap to the next line.
The channel text entry will also now wordwrap. A max of 255 characters can
be typed at once. Word wrapped lines are sent as one logical line to the
server.
The DCC CHAT text display box will now wordwrap as well.
Cascading is no longer automatic. Cascading will not include the server
message window. Tiling is now horizontal, it will include the server message
window. If you've managed to completely clutter your windows, you can use
the Reset Window command to cascade all windows and reposition the server
message window on the bottom third of the screen.
CTCP, DCC and ACTION are now supported. Enhanced commands among others are:
LIST, WAIT, PLAY, STOP, ACTION (ACT), NOTICE (NOT), DESCRIBE (DESC), EXIT,
CLEAR, WHO, DCCPACKET.
Paths are now removed from both outgoing and incoming DCC SEND filenames.
Wrapped lines in the text entry box are now considered on logical line. This
is to prevent leaking text to the regular channel when typing in a private
message.
Previous WSIRC12 versions would cause some Windows to become unsettled on
a few peculiar PCs during the startup of the main maximized window, current
version corrects that problem.
When setting up your Server options, use Port 6667. It's a known common port
for IRC servers.
If you experience odd behaviour, try changing servers. Some server sites
run experimental and test code and could have a few odd formatted lines
pass by.
KNOWN PROBLEMS:
None so far.
DESCRIPTION:
WSIRC is a Windows client for the Internet Relay Chat network. It allows
Internet users to chat electronically with each other using IRC servers.
The advantage is that users worldwide can access the IRC network and
converse with users worldwide.
WSIRC is a Windows Sockets 1.1 compliant application and has been tested
with NetManage's and Trumpet's WINSOCK.DLL tcp/ip protocol stack.
A WSIRC IRC server is currently under construction to provide video, audio,
raw data as well as the currently supported text data.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
WINSOCK.DLL must be present. WINSOCK.DLL is provided as part of your
networking software. It is not part of WSIRC. A number of shareware versions
exist. Of note is Peter Tattam's $20 WINSOCK.DLL available from a number of
ftp sites. A book called Windows Internet Tour Guide includes a sampler
version of Netmanage's Chameleon (version 3.11) for $25.- it's a very good
book for Internet beginners. Explains SLIP/PPP, setup, mail, ping, news, ftp,
telnet, mailing lists, etc.
SPECIAL NOTES:
There are 3 versions available.
SHAREWARE (WSIRC 1.12b-S).
FREEWARE (WSIRC 1.12b-G).
REGISTERED (WSIRC 1.12b-R).
Only the Shareware and Freeware versions may be distributed, if you see a
Registered version being distributed please email me.
Please note that I created WSIRC for my own personal enjoyment as a hobby.
It is not meant to be a money-making venture although I don't mind financial
recognition for it. In the spirit of cooperation within the Internet I have
included a FREEWARE version for use by anybody that simply won't or can't
purchase a licensed registered copy. Money received from registration will
go towards further development of WSIRC. The future includes images, sound
and video in both client and server versions.
